Rehabilitation Exercise Programs

WorkCover NSW guidelines for the management of soft tissue injuries published in 2006 states that:
- Evidence indicates that an early return to activity is the best treatment for soft tissue injuries, while extended rest and inactivity can compound disability.
- Increasing activity levels is a vital treatment strategy for those with delayed recovery.
- An early resumption of normal daily activity assists in preventing long term disability.
- A combination of workplace interventions, education and functional activity achieved return to work 2.41 times faster than ‘usual care’.
- Activity programs that include a cognitive behavioral approach are more effective in reducing disability in people with musculoskeletal pain.
